    What is Basti Treatment?
As we discussed the Vata Dosha yesterday, today we will provide information about one of the most important treatments for Vata Dosha - basti karma.

Basti treatment is the main treatment for increased doshas, predominately the Vata Dosha.

Vata Dosha is made up of both air and ether elements. Many Vata type of diseases are treated with Basti Karma including arthritis, rheumatism, muscle spasm, sciatica, backache, joint pains, headaches, constipation, gynaecological disorders and infertility.

What is the process of Basti Karma?

There are two types of basti. One is the Niruha basti, which is an eliminating decoction basti and the other is called an Anuvasana basti, which is an oil based enema. Generally the two bastis are done in alteration to reach the deeper tissues of the body.

A consultation with a practitioner is required prior to undergoing basti treatment, as the oil or decoction is chosen specifically for the client.

Today Karin has prepared a decoction enema, Niruha Basti, for a client. Yesterday the client had her first oil basti to prepare for todays cleansing enema.

Prior to the basti a short lower back massage is performed as well as Nadi sveda, localised sweating therapy. This is useful for helping to open up the channels of the localised area. This is useful for treating lower back pain, sciatica, endometriosis, PMS, stiff joints and muscles as well as arthritis.

The importance of hydrating and cleansing the colon has been used in many systems of medicine throughout the world. As we know from yesterdays post, it is critical to keep Vata in balance as it is often regarded as the leader of the Doshas as it governs the functioning of both Pitta and Kapha.

If this treatment sounds beneficial for you, you are welcome to book in for a consultation with one of our practitioners to discuss further. Booking options are in our bio!

Wishing you a great start to the weekend.
