Over the past 10 days we have been preparing Pinda Thailam at Lakshmi Ayurveda. This oil is primarily used in Gout, also called Vatarakta in Ayurvedic classical texts.
The ingredients included in our Pinda Thailam are manjistha, sariva, beeswax, water and sesame oil. One other herb called Sarjarasa is traditionally used
Pinda Thailam is great for treating pain and swelling, redness, heat and burning sensations. Warm and apply the oil as directed by your practitioner.
We first prepare a kalka by mixing the herbs with water to make a paste. The sesame oil is added to water in addition to the kalka. This boils for hours to infuse the qualities of the herbs into the oil and remove excess water. Once the kalka reaches Madhyama paka, the oil is filtered and then poured over the beeswax. Madhyama paka is reached when the herbs can be rolled into a cylindrical shape evenly.
We have just finished the last step of the process by adding beeswax to the Pinda thailam
