Summer has qualities of being hot, dry and sharp in nature. This can be aggravating for the Pitta dosha. Therefore, sweet, cold, liquid and fatty foods and drinks can be beneficial for consumption.
Most people, especially those prone to Pitta imbalances, should avoid or minimise excessive exercise, alcohol, and foods that are salty, sour and pungent, or hot in nature during the high summer heat.
Tips to Stay Balanced this Summer.
If you find that you are easily irritable and angry during the summer season, try balancing emotions with Shitali pranayama. Not only is this practice great for relieving anger, it helps to reduce excess heat and blood pressure.
To perform sit with your back straight, cross-legged on a cushion. Have your palms facing up on your knees. Take three deep breaths. Form a tube with your tongue, have the tip sticking out of the mouth. Alternatively you can curl your tongue and place the tip on the roof of your mouth. Inhale through your mouth, relax the tongue and exhale slowly through the nose. Repeat for a few minutes or as directed by your Ayurvedic practitioner.
If you would like to speak with a practitioner directly you are welcome to book in for a consultaiton. Bookings available via our website.
Wishing you a healthy start to the summer season!
