Ayurvedic Tips for Summer 🌺

Here are a few of our favourite tips for keeping healthy and happy during summer ☺️

Keep well hydrated:
- Make sure to start your day with a glass of water 💧 , and hydrate regularly throughout the day. You can try adding cooling herbs such as fresh mint, fennel or coriander seeds, cucumber slices and rose petals 🌹 etc. to your water. Coconut water is also a nice choice.

Favour cooling foods:
- Tastes to Favour: sweet, bitter and astringent
- Foods to Favour: juicy and sweet fruits such as berries, grapes 🍇 , pineapple, pomegranates, coconuts 🥥, lime 🍋🟩. Vegetables such as leafy greens, asparagus, green beans, broccoli 🥦 , cucumber 🥒 , and celery. Basmati rice, wheat, mung beans, ghee, whole milk 🥛, paneer and cooling sweeteners such as coconut sugar, maple syrup.
- Spices to Favour: coriander, basil 🌿, rosemary, fennel, cumin and cardamom.
- Tastes to Limit: Sour, salty and pungent/ spicy

Summer regimen:
- Rise with, or before the sun
- Exercise 🏃♂️ in the early morning before the sun is too strong. Favour excise which is not too strenuous, sweat inducing or depleting on the body such nature walks (in the shade), ocean swims 🐬 , and gentle yoga 🧘♀️
- Calm and cool the mind with regular meditation and Shitali Pranayama
- Avoid the midday sun. Make sure to wear a hat 👒
- Abhyanga (self massage) with cooling oils such as coconut, ksheerabala and chandanadi thailam 💆🏻♀️
- Head massage with Brahmi or Bhringaraj oil
- Avoid over working and over committing. Take time to pause. Breathe.

Connect with Nature 🦋:
- Try moon 🌒 bathing: sit quietly outdoors in the evening, exposing yourself to the moons rays, to receive the cooling and calming energy of the moon
- Walk barefoot on the grass 🍃
- Nature instantly calms the nervous system 😌
