This week Ayurvedic Practitioner Roberta has seen several patients complaining of heavy menstrual bleeding. 🩸
Heavy menses is called ‘Asrigdhara’ in Ayurveda, this gynaecological disorder is related to abnormal, excessive and/or prolonged bleeding during menstrual or intermenstrual periods 🩸
A healthy menstrual cycle according to Ayurveda is considered:

Duration – 5 days
After reading this, would you say your menstruation is considered normal? 🤔
Heavy menstrual bleeding can be very challenging for women when they can’t maintain their usual, daily activities.
If you are suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding, a Gynecologist will rule out any hormonal imbalances, Endometrial hyperplasia, Uterine fibroids or polyps and Adenomyosis.
Other risks are IUD intrauterine device, Pregnancy complications, ectopic pregnancy, Obesity, Cancer and Blood thinning medication.
Asrigdhara can be correlated to menorrhagia at times or Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) in modern science. DUB encompasses a variety of disorders that have abnormal or excessive uterine bleeding caused by malfunction of the hypothalamus, pituitary, uterus, ovary or other aspects of the reproductive system.
