    Have you heard of Triphala?

Also known as Three Fruits, Haritaki, Amalaki and Bibhitaki combine to make the Ayurvedic preparation called Triphala. There are numerous benefits to Triphala and it is one of the most well-known Ayurvedic medicines. In the photo is our homemade Triphala Guggulu as well as Triphala powder.

    Benefits ? of Triphala.

Great for detoxification, particularly for the colon and GI tract. High in antioxidants which assists in optimising digestion and absorption. Triphala also assists in healthy weight loss and maintenance.
Triphala Guggulu has a lekhana action, which is a scraping action to remove toxins and excess fatty tissue. It is used as a blood ? purifier, treats anal fistula and hemorrhoids and assists in alleviating obstructions in the bodily channels. In addition to Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki, Pippali and Shuddha Guggulu are the other herbs used in this formulation.

    Ways to use Triphala:

Triphala Mouth ? Wash - Great for treating dental plaque, gingivitis, mouth ulcers. Take 4 gm of Triphala powder and boil it in one litre (about 4 cups) of water until it is reduced to 250 mL (1 cup). When it cools, filter it with a strainer and keep this preparation in a clean, sterilized bottle. Use 20-50 ml (2-3 Tbsp) of this decoction as a mouthwash.
Triphala powder massage - Triphala powder is often used during Udvarthanam, dry powder massage. It is great for those experiencing weight gain or obesity, skin problems and fungal infections. This treatment is fantastic for weight loss.

Triphala for the Eyes ? - The Vitamin C content of Triphala acts on a deeply rejuvenate level, helping to enhance Alochaka Pitta, which is one of the sub-doshas of Pitta that governs eyesight. You can use Triphala to make an eye wash to cleanse and nourish the eyes. We will post within the next few weeks about how to make your own Triphala eye wash at home.

Triphala is great for both detoxification and rejuvenation. Although small amounts of Triphala are generally safe in short term duration for most people, it is best to speak to a practitioner regarding your use.
