    VATA DOSHA वात
    VATA DOSHA वात

Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Have you heard of the three doshas?

Today we will speak about the Vata Dosha and illustrate ways in which you may see aspects of the Vata Dosha within yourself.

Vata Dosha is made up of the bhutas (elements) of air and ether, Vayu and Akash.

The qualities, gunas, of Vata include dry, light, cold, rough, subtle and mobile. How can you imagine these qualities show within our bodies and mind? Continue reading for more details.

As Vata has a cold quality, you can imagine that those with a Vata body constitution are not able to tolerate the cold. They enjoy warmer weather to balance their natural cold quality.

As Vata has a light quality, you can imagine these individuals have a restless, constantly moving and never quite comfortable nature. They may lack organisation, be quick or impulsive and eat fast.

The rough quality? May show in the skin and hair being dry. Also in cracking joints and skin.

The subtle quality? These individuals may naturally have a smaller frame and structure.

The mobile quality of Vata Dosha can be seen in their quick action. They may quickly grasp information or tasks but they may just as quickly forget. Memory retention may be poor, prone to irritability and lack of sleep.

Vata is often regarded as the leader of the Doshas as it governs the functioning of the other two doshas. When Vata is out of balance it can quickly cause a vitiation in both Pitta and Kapha.

How do you see the Vata Dosha within ourself? Remember, we all have our constitution and our current state of imbalance. Can you see the difference in the constitutional nature of yourself (Prakruti) versus your imbalance (Vikruti)?

Wishing you a great day. Don’t forget to be kind, bring balance and nurturing to your Vata Dosha.
