Did you know that there are health benefits to donating blood? According to the Red Cross, one donation can save up to three lives. Not only are you supporting others, but as a donor you will also experience the benefits.
First of all, it should be noted that donating blood is not suitable for everyone. Thankfully, the blood services have strict protocols developed to keep both the donor and receiver safe. Your haemoglobin levels, blood pressure, medical history, and weight will be checked to ensure that you, the donor, are physically capable of donating blood. The blood is screened to make sure there are not blood-transmittable diseases that could be passed onto the receiver.
In Ayurveda there is a treatment process called Raktamokshana - please note,
Raktamokshana is different to blood donation and is not to be considered the same as blood donation.
In ancient times, the physicians of Ayurveda understood the importance of Raktamokshana (the 5th Panchakarma treatment), blood-letting. The act of removing blood from the body was done to provide the body with an opportunity to generate new, clean blood. Traditionally, blood-letting has been classified into 1. Raktamokshana done with a metal instruments (Pracchana/ incising, Siravedha/ venepuncture) 2. Raktamokshana done without metal instruments * Jalauka vacharana (applying leech ) *Shringa Vacharana/cows horn * Alabu/ Pumpin *Ghatiyantra/pot
So how will donating blood improve your health?
1. It gives the body the opportunity to generate new blood. Blood donation stimulates the liver and spleen to replenish the lost blood volume and produce new, healthy blood cells. 2. Studies show it can lower levels of cholesterol. 3. Blood donation assists in detoxifying the organs. By generating new and health blood, the body is able to circulate essential nutrients to the organs more efficiently. 4. Supports toxin elimination. 5. Most importantly supporting those who are in an extreme situation and need for blood.
