    What is Virechana?
Yesterday we had two clients undergoing Virechana through the Lakshmi clinic.

    What is Virechana?

As we have been discussing Panchakarma and Ayurvedic detox programs, we will go into depth about Virechana Karma.

Virechana is the best treatment for aggravated Pitta Dosha. From previous posts you would be aware that Pitta Dosha is related to the elements of fire and water and is most associated with the organs of the liver, gall bladder and small intestine.

Excess Pitta in the system can manifest in the organs mentioned above - often resulting in rashes, inflammation of the skin, acne and increased body heat

What is the process of Virechana?

A herbal laxative is administered in the early morning to expel malas (waste products) and toxins in the downwards direction. After the virechana herbs are administered, a series of loose bowel movements will follow.

How should you feel after Virechana Karma?

A successful Virechana will improve ones digestion, normalise the appetite, alleviate abdominal bloating and heaviness. The mind will start to feel calmer and more clear. This therapy is deeply cleansing for the blood, liver and bile.

There is important preparation necessary prior to Virechana. This includes following a light and easily digestible diet as suggested by your Ayurvedic practitioner. Also, snehana (oleation) of the body through both oil massage and the intake of medicated ghee. Swedana (sweating sedation therapy) is also generally performed prior to Virechana to liquefy toxins and move ⬇️ the toxins into the gastrointestinal tract - these toxins will then be expelled after the VIrechana herbs are administered. Vamana (therapeutic vomiting) may also be suggested, depending on the clients individual needs.

It is not too late to book in for your seasonal cleanse - appointments with both Karin and Sam are available for booking through our website. The link to view is in our bio.

Wishing you a great start to the spring season!
