    Patra Pinda Sveda Treatment

Do you suffer from aches and pains? This treatment might be very beneficial for you!

Patra Pinda Sveda is one of the many different types of Pinda Sveda.

We prepared this for you with fresh castor leaves, coconut, lemon, salt, fenugreek, cumin and more vata and pacifying herbs. This treatment is often used for Osteoarthritis as it strengthens soft tissue, joints and muscles.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic and progressive condition that mostly affects the hands, spine and joints such as hips, knees and ankles. It is the most common form of arthritis. An estimated 2.2 million (9.3%) Australians have this condition, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2017–18 National Health Survey (NHS). 1 in 5 Australians (21%) over the age of 45 have osteoarthritis and it is the most common form of arthritis in Australia.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, vitiated Vata gets lodged at one or more Sandhi (place where two bones meet) and produces pain in the joint, swelling, crepitus and stiffness in the joint.

When these symptoms appear in Janu (knee) it called as Janu- sandhigata Vata.

A few classical references for Sandhigata Vata (osteoarthritis) are as follows….

      • Excessive aggravated Vata inside joints causes swelling in the joints, appears as a leather bag inflated with air on palpation and pain during extension and flexion of the joint. C. S. Ci 28/37.

      • Excessively aggravated Vata inside joints causes the destructions of the joints and gives rise to pain and swelling in the joints. S. S. Ni 1:28.

    • Excessively aggravated Vata in the joints causes destruction of the actions of the joints and manifest pain and crepitation in the joints. M.Ni 22/21.

A few of the causative factors (Nidana) for Sandhigata Vata include excessive exercise, injury, lifting heavy objects, long duration of travel in vehicles, rubbing and irritation of the bones. Also, a diet of excess bitter, astringent, and pungent foods, including those with a drying, cold and light nature are said to be related to the condition. Day sleep and emotions are also causative factors.

If there is swelling and inflammation in the joint, a rukshana (drying) treatment should be performed prior to oil application. A rukshan (drying) treatment such as Valuka Pinda would be wonderful. To learn more about Valuk Sveda follow us, this will a post coming up very soon.
