We have many clients come into the clinic who partake in micro-dosing. We wanted to highlight our perspective and the Ayurvedic outlook on the subject.
We understand that this topic can be very controversial with varying opinions.
Generally, we do not encourage the use of micro-dosing for clients. We find that many clients who micro-dose tend to experiment with other drugs or develop a habit that may be more harmful than helpful for their well-being.
Without only targeting drugs, we acknowledge that addictions come in many different forms.
Addictions are not solely associated with alcohol and drugs - food, coffee, and even seemingly positive actions such as exercise and healthy eating can have addictive tendencies. Anything consumed in excessive amounts can be toxic for the body depending on each individual.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, alcohol and recreational drugs have the opposite qualities of Ojas. Ojas provide us with vitality and immunity in life, therefore it is very important that we preserve our Ojas.
Preserving our Ojas looks like: practicing mindfulness, meditation, pranayama, eating a Satvic diet etc.
Because there is most often stress, anxiety, depression and other mental disorders associated with addiction, Ayurveda will focus on treating the mind and body.
Depending on the severity of the addiction, the body may undergo withdrawal symptoms. Managing these symptoms with Ayurvedic herbs and diet is crucial in supporting an individual in their recovery.
Support from loved ones and surrounding yourself with positive influences.

“When a person indulges in the use of even Apathya (unwholesome foods) for a long period of time will not cause Vikara (disease) due to Abhyasa (habituation) and this is known as Oka Satmya. Though it is wrong, it might not cause much harm to the person, like the presence of poison in a snake is not harmful to snake by itself.” CH SS VI 49
As mentioned in the quote above, many people who regularly partake in drug use actually feel their body has fully adapted to their use. However, as the quote above mentions, the client may not feel the harmful effects of the drugs because their body has adapted. This does not mean the use of drugs or alcohol is best for promoting optimal health for their body.
As a reminder for all of us, Ayurveda always suggests diet and routine as the basis of every health plan. If we have a healthy diet and lifestyle, managing imbalances within our bodies are far easier. Overall, we believe that the benefits of focusing on a lifestyle that does not include the use of drugs. To align oneself with a more sattvic nature using Yogic and Ayurvedic wisdom.
