What a great day at Lakshmi Clinic, Roberta hosted our Introduction to Ayurvedic Cooking workshop! All the participants learned so much about Ayurvedic nutrition.
Did you know that combining the wrong healthy foods can actually turn them into toxins? 🌿✨
In Ayurveda, this concept is called Viruddha Ahara (incompatible food combinations).
May of the clients who come to visit us consider their diet healthy, but still feel bloated and have low energy. Even if two ingredients are superfoods on their own, mixing them can confuse your digestive fire (Agni), leading to a slow buildup of Ama (digestive toxins) that can eventually trigger skin issues, bloating, and fatigue.
Ayurveda teaches that how we combine foods matters just as much as what we eat.
🚫 3 Common Food Combinations to Avoid:
1.Fish + Milk / Yogurt 🐟🥛 – Opposing potencies (hot vs. cold) that can block the bodily channels (Srotas) and irritate the skin.
2.Honey + Heat 🍯🔥 – Heating honey alters its structure, making it sticky and hard to digest.
3.Fruit + Dairy 🍓🥛 – Fruits digest quickly, while milk takes longer. Combining them creates fermentation and acidity in the gut.
💭 “But I eat these incompatible foods and feel fine!” If consumed in very small quantities (Alpa Matra) or if you have a exceptionally strong digestive fire (Agni), you might not notice any symptoms right away. However, for most people, the impact isn’t instant - it’s the slow, cumulative build-up of Ama over time that eventually manifests as various health disorders. Check out the post photos to see some of the conditions that manifest due to Viruddha Ahara.
💡 Quick Rule: Eat fruits alone on an empty stomach, and keep hot and cold potencies separate!
Keep your digestive fire burning by keeping your meals simple and compatible🔥
