The process of making Ayurvedic oils is called Sneha Kalpana. π§π³
Sneha means fat or a fatty material. The oil is boiled with Kalka (herbal paste), Swarasa (juice) or Kwatha (herbal decoction) so the active therapeutic properties of the Dravya (herbs) enter into the ghee or thaila/oil.Β
It is cooked until the proper cooking stage has been achieved.
There are 4 stages of Paka (cooking) mentioned in the text: Mridu, Madhyama, Khara and Dagdha Paka. Once the correct cooking stages is achieved the oil is filtered.
