    Shalakya Tantra

    “Shalakya Tantra” is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda, which focuses on diseases and treatments related to the head and neck region. This branch encompasses various aspects of ophthalmology, otolaryngology (ENT), and dentistry. 

    The ancient Ayurvedic text “Sushruta Samhita” contains extensive information on Shalakya Tantra. Check out our yesterday’s post. 

    Let’s see what the classical text says about promoting your eye health. 

    These recommendations from the classical Ayurvedic text are still relevant in the modern world 

    Daily Routine 

    - Getting up at Brahma muhurta (before sunrise) 🌅

    - Walking under the evening sun 

    - Meditation 

    - Bathing in holy rivers 

    - Wearing clean clothing 

    - Ornaments of pearls and other gems 

    - Eyes should be washed twice daily 

    - Participating in singing and dancing 

    - Application of Kajal (ayurvedic eyeliner) 

    - Regular foot bath and foot massage 

    - Use of footwear 

    - Application of ghee on your feet at least once in three days 

    - Gazing at the full moon through the space between your fingers once a month 

    Aromatherapy

    - Wearing scented flowers like Lotus and Jasmin 

    - Applying natural perfumes of sandalwood, camphor, musk and jasmine

    - Floral garlands will protect the eyes due to their scents. They are recommended to be worn regularly 

    Food: 

    - Clean water and sweetened 

    - Drinking of tender coconut water 

    - Milk 

    - Ghee 

    - Amalaki 

    Herbs 

    - Triphala 

    - Triphaladi powder 

    - Regular eye drops made with coconut water (Narikelanjana) 

    Panchakarma/ Ayurvedic therapies 

    - Nasya and Virechana are recommended 

    - Akshi Tarpana eye treatment.

    Our top tips are 

    1. Dinacharya / follow a daily routine 

    2. Wearing gems and flower garlands especially Jasmine 

    3. Application of kajal 

    4. Regular foot bath and massage with ghee 

    5. Akshi tarpana (Ayurvedic eye treatment) 

    6. Perform regular Panchakarma
