Our students made some traditional Dhumavarti, hand-rolled and about to get dried in the sun 🌞
Dhumavarti are used for Dhumapana. 👇👇👇
Dhuma is a Sanskrit word for “smoke”
Dhumapana, the inhalation of a medicinal smoke. 💨
We can learn about the practice of Dhumapana in the classical Ayurvedic text, Ashtanga Hridaya Sutrasthana Ch. 21.
Different types of Dhumapana are mentioned:
1. Snigdha Dhuma - useful in Vata imbalance
2. Madhya Dhuma - medium strenght also known as Shamana Dhuma
3. Teekshna Dhuma - strong, useful in Kapha imbalance. Also known as virechana Dhuma.
The smoke inhalation 💨is done after Akshi Tarpana (Ayurvedic eye treatment) 👀, Nasya treatment and other Ayurvedic treatments.
The smoke is inhaled through the nose 👃🏼and exhaled through the mouth👄. This will help to remove any excess Kapha.
Some benefits and indication of Dhumapana:
• Clears nasal and sinus congestion
• Reduces excess Kapha
• Supports breathing and respiratory comfort
• Improves voice and throat health
• Relieves head heaviness and headaches
• Promotes clarity of senses
