Ginger is an ingredient in many Ayurvedic formulations, including one of our favourites - Trikatu.
As the quote mentions, Trikatu is a mixture of sunthi, maricha, and pippali (ginger, black pepper and long pepper).
There are so many benefits to this formula, some including its ability to awaken digestion, digesting toxins in the body (AMA), treats cough and asthma and helps remove mucus and phlegm. It can also be used in hay fever and in weight loss treatment.
It is pungent, heating, light and dry in quality so, therefore, should be used with caution if you suffer from conditions of high pitta or hyperacidity
We use and prescribe Trikatu during Autumn and Winter months. One of our favourite Ayurvedic treatments for this time of the year.
We love adding it to some warm water to make tea. Trikatu taken with honey is also often recommended
