  • Insect Houses

    January 23, 2024 1 min read

I loved seeing all the insect houses also known as a bug hotel, during my last visit back home in Germany.

It provides shelter for beneficial insects like pollinators and predators.

It can enhance biodiversity, supports the garden ecosystems and aids in a natural pest control.

This is our first bug house in the Lakshmi garden, we are so happy to have this little bug sancturarly.

Some tips on how effectively use a bug hotel:

    1. Placement:

Position it in a sheltered spot, preferably facing south or southeast to catch sunlight. Elevate it slightly to prevent waterlogging.

    2. Natural Materials:

Fill compartments with a variety of natural materials like twigs, pinecones, straw, and bamboo to create diverse habitats for insects.

    3. Location Diversity:

Include the bug hotel in a garden with a mix of flowering plants to attract pollinators. Ensure nearby water sources for insect hydration.

    4. Avoid Pesticides

Refrain from using chemical pesticides in the vicinity, as they can harm the very insects you’re trying to attract.

    5. Observation:

Regularly observe the bug hotel to see which insects inhabit it. Cleaning and maintaining it annually can ensure its longevity.

By following these steps, you can create a welcoming environment for beneficial insects, supporting biodiversity and ecological balance in your garden.

We would love to hear your experience with this. Comment below
