  • Ayurvedic Travel Tips

    January 23, 2024 2 min read

Are you travelling during the festive season?

This time of year calls for a lot of travel so we wanted to give some tips from an Ayurveda perspective to send you on your way with health and prosperity.

What do you pack in your carry-on luggage?

Here are a few of our Ayurvedic essentials and recommendations while traveling.

    • Nasya oil: Apply a drop or two of sesame oil to the ears and nostrils before the flight.
    • Eye mask and ear plugs: relax the senses.
    • Hot water flask: continually sipping hot water throughout the flight.
    • Ginger or cumin powder . Keep the agni strong.
    • Triphala powder or capsules: keep digestion regular.
    • Vitamin C and electrolyte tabs.
    • Big cozy scarf to cover the ears, and head completely
    • Ayurvedic eye drops. Keep the eyes hydrated.

    Other Tips

    • Only consume warm foods. Most flights offer many cold and dry foods and snacks. Try to stick with warm and moist options. I always pre-order my meal (it’s free!) to the Asian Indian vegetarian option or the Jain vegetarian option (fun fact: the Jain option comes without garlic and onion).
    • Meditate and practice meditative visualisation techniques to help relax the body and mind and encourage sleep 🧘🏻‍♀️
    • Avoid alcohol 🥃
    • Practice breathing exercises.

Using Ayurvedic wisdom to help combat some of the imbalancing aspects of travel such as constipation, jet lag, poor appetite, lack of sleep, and excessive gas. Before implementing any of these recommendations, we suggest speaking with your Ayurvedic practitioner to confirm they are suitable for you.

    Happy travels
