Called Karavella in Sanskrit, Karela in Hindi and Momordica Charantia in Latin, bitter melon is used in a variety of cuisines around the world and is widely used in Ayurveda. Its bitter taste and medicinal qualities make it great for balancing blood sugar levels in diabetes, cleansing the blood, skin disorders and supports healthy weight management.
Bitter Melon is heating in Veerya (potency), and Tikta (bitter) and Katu (pungent) in rasa (taste). It is great for pacifying imbalanced Kapha and Pitta doshas. Also, it doesn’t increase Vata Dosha when used in moderation!
If you are unable to purchase fresh bitter gourd, we have dried now available in the shop. These can be used in recipes, added to your dal and also soaked to make a tea It is best to speak to your practitioner for a recommendation on how to use it best suited for you. We also have it available in capsules.
The shop is open from 9am-4pm from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays from 9am-3pm. You are welcome to come into the shop to browse our selection of products, herbs and oils.
