    Ayurvedic Approach to Acne
The Ayurvedic approach to acne treatment follows a wholistic view, combining dietary, lifestyle, herbal and treatment alterations. Ayurveda stresses finding the root cause of the condition and treating accordingly. Each person will have a different acne treatment program depending on the degree of severity, inflammation, scaring, blackheads and pimples.

Generally, Pitta dosha (made up of fire ? and water ? elements) and rakta dhatu (the blood ? tissue) are most commonly involved in the formation of acne. Therefore, most treatment programs will aim to balance both pitta and purify the blood. However, treatment is individual based on the emotional, physical and mental facilities of each person and can involve all doshas.

Acne Rosacea is often associated with improperly formed rakta Dhatu, the blood ? A combination of dietary changes ? and the use of internal and external blood purifying herbs can help to combat acute rosacea.

Acne Vulgaris is cystic acne and is more challenging to treat, as it is generally associated with both rasa and rakta Dhatus. Generally an individual experiencing cystic acne would have an increase in fluid retention and deeper rooted Ama, digestive toxins. Panchakarma treatment is often effective and recommended.

Many causes of acne are associated with improper diet. Avoiding inflammatory foods such as spicy ? sour, fermented and preserved foods is recommended. Coffee ☕️ and caffeine in general can cause increased inflammation.

Incompatible food combinations are also causes of acne, including combining sour foods with milk ? etc. Incorporating more bitter vegetables, cleansing and easy to digest foods.

Lifestyle recommendations such as Ayurvedic face masks, using clean sheets and pillowcases, proper hygiene etc. is recommended.

A number of different herbs can be used to help treat acne. These include and are not limited to Manjistha, Sariva, Guduchi, Neem, Yasthimadhu, Sandalwood. Each of these herbs act as blood purifiers.
