    Sultanas and Raisins
What is the difference between sultanas and raisins? Many clients ask this question, inquiring about which is best to consume.

Both are dried grapes but of different variety. Sultanas are generally more golden in colour and made from green or white grapes and raisins from darker coloured grapes. Although here in Australia they look very similar.

We usually suggest using raisins over sultanas as we find the nutritional density in the raisins more potent than those of sultanas.

Raisins are sweet in taste and cooling in potency - Grapes are referred to as Draksha in Sanskrit.

An easy remedy for constipation is to prepare raisin water. Check out our YouTube video for a short demonstration on how to prepare. Simply soak a small handful of raisins in a stainless steel cup overnight and consume the liquid on an empty stomach in the morning. You can then add the raisins to your porridge or enjoy as a snack throughout the day.

We always recommend to our clients to purchase only organic and sulphur free raisins. This is particularly important if you notice you have any adverse reactions such as flushed skin, which can be a result of reaction with sulphur.

Raisins are included in a number of our favourite recipes, both sweet and savoury. It is said in the Ashtanga Hridayam, one of the classical texts of Ayurveda, that grapes are “Draksha Phalottama”, meaning the best of all fruits.

With love from the Lakshmi team, enjoy your raisins.
