Teeth are considered an updadhatu of Asthi dhatu (bone tissue).

In Ayurveda it is mentioned that the tooth eruption (dantopatti kala) is best when a child is 8 months old.

Names of various teeth have been given by Kashapya. These are: Rajadanta, Vasta, Damstra, and Hanavya. The middle two teeth are Rajadanta (incisor) and are considered sacred. Teeth by the side of Rajadanta are called Vasta (canines) and other teeth by the side of it are called Damstra (pre-molar). The rest are called Hanavya (molar) and named because are helpful in mastication.

This is a continuity from our facebook articles about the Saptadhatus (seven body tissues). From digested food (ahara rasa) the seven body tissues are formed.

The Saptadhatus are

1. Rasa – Plasma
2. Rakta – Blood
3. Mamas – Muscle
4. Medas – adipose tissue
5. Asthi – bone and cartilage
6. Majja– bone marrow
7. Shukra – reproductive fluids.

The qualities of Autumn are dry, rough, windy, cool, and subtle. Due to the similar qualities, Autumn is considered the Vata season; therefore we need to balance the Vata qualities of cool, lightness and drying with warmth, nourishment, oil and stability. Stability and routine are particularly important for treating individuals experiencing a Vata imbalance. Therefore, we recommend setting a seasonal routine based on these general guidelines.

Porridge is always a great breakfast especially during the autumn and winter season.
These oats are closest to their original grain form. They are made when the whole groat (whole unbroken grain) is cut into several pieces with a steel blade (it looks similar to rice that’s been cut into pieces).
