Triphala Eye Wash Treatment

Today we are preparing the mixture for our Triphala eye ? wash! As you read in our recent article, there are a multitude of benefits to using Triphala powder. The herbal blend of haritaki, bibhitaki and amalaki assists in gently cleaning and nourishing the eyes. This eye wash is great for treating generally tired and dry eyes.

Alochaka Pitta is governed by Pitta dosha, which consists of fire ? and water ? elements. The seat of Alochaka Pitta is in the eyes ? and is said to provide us with a healthy perspective on life. Imbalanced Alochaka Pitta may result in red eyes, blurred vision and other eye conditions. Washing and cleansing of our eyes is just one way to brighten our perspective on the world around us.

Please note that although the treatment is considered safe, it is best to perform under the direction of an Ayurvedic Practitioner.

Instructions

Add 1 tablespoon of Triphala powder to 500 ml of water in a saucepan.

Bring to a boil and cook until the mixture is reduced to ½ (about 250 ml).

Let the water cool completely, an hour or two is usually enough. Alternatively you can prepare the Triphala wash in the evening, cover the water and use it the next day. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh cloth or coffee filter. Ensure that the powder sediment is completely strained.

Fill one of your eye baths to three quarters of the way full. Gently open your eyes. Look in all directions and blink a few times before performing on the other eye. You can find eye baths at your local chemist.

There are additional treatments such as Tarpana, that may be more suited for you and your eye complaints. If you have an eye condition, it is best to speak with your Ayurvedic Practitioner before performing this treatment.
