In Ayurveda, Kapha dosha is one of the three primary bioenergies or life forces that govern the human body and mind. The three doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and each individual is believed to have a unique combination of these doshas, which influences their physical, mental, and emotional characteristics.
Each of the doshas are made up of the elements ether, air, fire, water and earth. The qualities (gunas) of Kapha include cool, heavy, stable, oily, smooth, and slow. These qualities manifest in various aspects of the mind and body when Kapha is in balance or imbalanced.

Known for their calm, steady and loving nature, they are nurturing and compassionate. They provide emotional stability to those around them and are often seen as peacemakers, are generally tolerant and forgiving. When imbalanced, Kapha individuals can become overly attached, possessive and resistant to change. Imbalance can lead to feelings of lethargy, depression and sadness.
Balanced Kapha individuals are patient, stable, even-tempered and are generally tolerant and forgiving. They tend to have a calming and supportive presence and seek to maintain a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere in social situations.
A person with a balanced Kapha dosha usually has a sturdy, well-built body with a tendency to gain weight. Their skin is soft, smooth, and slightly oily. They have strong immunity, good stamina, and endurance. They tend to have regular digestion and elimination.
Excessive Kapha can manifest as weight gain, sluggishness, congestion, allergies, possessiveness, and feelings of attachment.
Often have a creative and artistic side, a good memory and are detail oriented, good listeners and caregivers with excellent physical and emotional endurance.
To balance Kapha dosha, it is essential to adopt a lifestyle and dietary choices that counter its qualities. Engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a warm and stimulating environment, and consuming light, warm, and spicy foods can help balance Kapha.
