Avocado and Ayurveda

What’s not to love about avocado! Most people love avocados and they’re easy to love with their rich and flavourful taste.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, Avocado is great for pacifying excess Vata and Pitta Doshas. When consumed in excess, it can increase Kapha dosha.

The qualities of avocado are similar to those of Kapha:

  • – Guru (heavy)
  • – Slimy
  • – Brimhana (building)
  • – Shita (cooling)
  • – Dense
  • – Madhura (Sweet)

Not to worry. In balanced consumption, avocados pack a great nutritional boost. Rich in healthy fats, antioxidants and fibre.

Avocado salad

  • – 1 avocado mashed
  • – Chopped coriander
  • – Pinch of hing
  • – Chopped chives
  • – Lemon juice
  • – Salt
  • – Pepper

Simply add as a side to some basmati rice and sautéed vegetables. Yum!
