    Almonds and Ayurveda
Earlier this week we posted about Green almonds. To refresh your memory, green almonds are the immature fruits of the sweet almond tree harvested while still soft before the outer shell hardens and the inner kernel fully develops. Check out our previous article to read about some of the benefits of green almonds.

So where do almonds stand from an Ayurvedic perspective?

Almond kernels have a multitude of benefits. They can be used for debilitation, great for the brain and memory, nourishes the nervous system and much more. They are sweet in nature and also have a heating tendency in the body. Therefore they can increase Pitta Dosha, especially if salted! Almond kernels heavy and oily qualities help to balance Vata Dosha but can increase Kapha if eaten in excess.

    Avoid

      • Salted almonds

      • Added vegetable oils

      • Added seasonings. If you would like to season, do so yourself.

    Favour

      • Oven roasted, activated and/or blanched over raw almonds.

      • We always suggest soaking the almonds overnight. If you don’t have time, see below on how to blanch them quickly.

How to make almonds more digestible?

The brown skins of almonds can be difficult to digest. We often suggest our clients to blanch them before eating - simply soaking them in boiling water for one minute, drain and rinse in cold water. Remove the skins and enjoy!

Have you tried our date and almond Ojas drink? It is so delicious and nourishing. Check out our blog for our free downloadable with the recipe - the link to view is in our bio.

From the Lakshmi team, we wish you a great day.
