    Ayurveda for Athletes

Yes, you can incorporate Ayurvedic principles into your sports practice!

Whether you’re a surfer, yoga enthusiast, runner, professional cricket player, footballer, basketball player, hiker etc - Ayurveda is suitable for all athletes

In fact, some of our clients are professional athletes and incorporating some aspects of the Ayurveda lifestyle can be very beneficial for the demanding nature of competitive sports

Below are a few ways in which an Ayurvedic routine, mindfulness and diet can be useful for athletes

Timing: The Kapha time of the day is between 6 am-10 am and 6 pm-10 pm. This time of the day naturally holds more heavy qualities and can balance the qualities of lightness that are familiar to exercise. Generally, these are the best times of the day to exercise

Mind-body connection: Ayurveda recognises the importance of mindfulness and mental well-being. Practices like meditation pranayama (breathing exercises), and yoga can help athletes manage stress, improve focus, and enhance overall performance. Bringing in the mind and soul into a physical practice. How can I apply my body and mind in this sport in order to reach a higher state of consciousness?

Proper nutrition: Ayurveda emphasises a balanced diet tailored to an individual’s dosha. Working with one of our practitioners to determine their dominant dosha is helpful to maintain balance through a personalised diet and lifestyle recommendations focused on the demands of their sport. Certain Ayurvedic herbs and spices, like turmeric, ashwagandha, and ginger, may also support athletic performance and recovery

Recovery: Rejuvenating treatments such as an Abhyanga oil massage or Pinda Sveda treatment to recover from a big game or a Shirodhara treatment for deep relaxation and to reduce muscle tension, improve circulation and enhance rest and adequate sleep would be incredibly beneficial and therapeutic

Rejuvenation: Many Ayurvedic Herbs and treatments can be used to rejuvenate depleted tissues that may be suffering from overuse. Sports’ physically and mentally demanding aspects can be overwhelming for many athletes. A herbal Medya Rasayana treatment would provide much-needed mental relaxation and clarity

Incorporating Ayurvedic principles can help us to learn how to intelligently practice sports.
