This is a type of Ruksha (drying) pinda Sveda treatment done over the whole body or locally to a specific area. Valuka is a Sanskrit word for sand and svedana is a sudation therapy. Sand bundles are prepared and massaged over the body.
- This treatment is known for relieving pain, stiffness and swelling associated with arthritis.
- It is suitable treatment for Vata, Kapha, Ama conditions and Medas.
- It helps to remove stagnancy and clears the bodily srotas (channels), which helps to remove water retention in the tissue and swelling in the joints.
Indications for Valuka Sveda.
1. Amavata - rheumatoid arthritis.
2. Urustambha - stiffness in the thigh.
3. Medo roga - obesity.
4. Granthi - cystic swelling.
5. Kapha Medavritavata - Kapha and meda obstruction of Vata.
The Valuka (Sand) is heated and tied in the Potali (cloth bundle). It is then applied directly to the body or after dipping into Kanji water.
The treatment is best done over 3, 5 or 7 days.
