Do you have a tickle in your throat but your are scared to cough or sneeze? 🤧 😷

I am sure most of us feel that way at the moment. It might be just a tickle in the throat, seasonal changes which makes you want to cough or sneeze. 🤧

It is actually normal to sometimes cough/ sneeze for example when mucus, dust or smoke comes in your throat/ nose.
Sneezing is a natural cleansing mechanism of the respiratory tract. 🤧

With the current pandemic surrounding us and consuming much of our time we might feel we need to suppress the natural urge to cough as somebody might get scared of the virus. 😷

It makes us suppress a natural urge. This is quiet a “big thing” according to Ayurveda.

In the chapter of “roganutpadaniyam” prevention of diseases it is said:

NEVER suppress vegas (the natural urge). According to classical text they are thirteen natural urges and according to Vagbhata fourteen.

Those Vegas are yawning, sleep, urination, vomiting, hunger, thirst………sneezing/ kshavathu and coughing/ kasa. 😴 🥱

Those Vegas (natural urges) are involuntary in nature but can be controlled by us. Nothing might happen if you do it once or twice but if any one or more Vegas are habitually suppressed it may result in a disease.

Suppression of kshavathu/ sneezing results in
1. Headaches
2. Migraines
3. Stiffness in the neck
4. Weakness of the sensory organs

The symptoms of Kshavathu vega can be relieved by external oleation of head, shoulders, and neck region. One can use a hot pack, inhale medicinal smoke, use medicated nose drops, consume ghee after meals, and balance the vata dosha. 🌿🌿🌿

Suppression of cough/ kasa results in
1. aggravation of asthma
2. difficulties in breathing
3. loss of taste
4. epigastric distress
5. heart disease
6. emaciation
7. weak bodily tissues and
8. hiccups

The treatment for Kasa vega is taking Sitopaladi churna, Talisadi churna, or Yashti madhu churna paste made in honey and warm water (Bagde and Sawant, 2013).
Vata shamana/ Vata pacifying treatments is applied. 🌿🌿🌿

We recommend you not to suppress a natural urge to often. If you need to sneeze or cough use a tissue, throw it in the bin and wash your hands. 🙂 🤧

    I’ve been using sitopaladi churna to help keep me healthy during ‘virus’ proliferation. Tabasheer/ vanslochan is awesome! It’s used in TCM too, but at 90$ a LB it’s quite prohibitive. When the markets revive themselves I’ll definitely be incorporating sitopaladi in my daily ashwagandha churna. I’m reluctant to say, but pandemic has also spurred my intake of nirdosh herbal smoking mixture, and bhanga! in combination with hatha kriya
    (jala neti, nasya, ear oleation, eyebathe, induced vomiting…etc) But hey, I’ve always favored the left-hand path.
