Learn about 🌿 Moringa Oleifera

Often called Shigru or drumstick, the Moringa Tree is recognised for its ability to penetrate into deep levels of the tissue to assists in cleansing and detoxification. Its benefits are extensive – it is claimed the plant can assist in curing 300 different diseases.

Moringa is commonly found in home remedies and kitchens in the foothills of Himalayas, many tropical and subtropical areas of South Asia, Central America, parts of Africa and even the Caribbean.

The leaves and pods are often consumed in recipes and the dried leaves can be found in powdered form. The qualities of Moringa are as followed:

Rasa (Taste): Katu (Pungent) and Tikta (Bitter)
Virya (Potency): Ushna (hot)
Vipaka (Post-digestive taste): Katu (Pungent)
Gunas: Laghu (light), Dry (Ruksha), Sharp (Tikshna).

Shigru is particularly balancing for Kapha and Vata Doshas. Due to its heating nature, anyone experiencing Pitta predominant disorders, burning sensations, gastritis and sensitivity in the stomach should avoid using Moringa excessively.
